TWA: Total Work of Art

Our class called “TWA” or “Total Work of Art” or “Thinking with Air” or “Three Worlds Aligned” happened this summer in June, July, and August, meeting twice a week in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, NY...

Ten participants arrived with their own “points of departure” or “idea for a single thing” and gradually transformed them into distinct digital, physical, and temporal forms, creating new worlds...

After seven weeks of explorations, the class culminated in a final “TWA BBQ,” where a barbecue gradually shapeshifted into participant temporal encounters, including: board meetings, launch parties, movement exercises, product demos, screenprinting, readings, and live or interactive installations...

Thanks to all the participants including Maddy, Ha, Mary, Halim, Siri, Quinlan, Ritam, Jiamin, Maria, and Goda; teachers Bryant, Stephen, and Laurel; and telos for hosting!

Special thanks to Vincent for BBQ grilling; Matthew for the photos; and our guest lecturers Spencer, Nile, and Salome!

As Min Guhong Manufacturing says, “If the concept is fun or interesting, it becomes an engine or machine. It keeps producing interesting stuff, almost by itself…”

Sense to Sense

Our sensorial writing and publication class, “Sense to Sense,” happened in June and July for five weeks, exploring the five senses....

Twelve participants met on Sunday and Monday evenings to discuss carrying sensations into written form. By the end, we created a publication... which is available to purchase, while supplies last! ($15 + $5 USD shipping! US domestic orders only, thanks.)

On Friday, August 1st, we hosted a launch party inside an elegant skyscraper lobby called Park Avenue Plaza in midtown — with a piano, some real and fake greenery, and a waterfall. It's a POPS (Privately Owned Public Space), so it was free for us to use...

Sense to Sense Publication Launch on Friday, August 1, 2025

There were some readings, refreshments, and a fragrance bar... and everyone “dressed to sensorially impress.” Thanks to our participants, including: Ariana, Nat, Jess, Kara, Alicia, Hannah, alphonse, Tiffany, Miaoye, Kim, Jill, and Hannah; our teachers Meg and Laurel...

We are grateful to our Monday evening meeting space at Dean's List in Boerum Hill, Brooklyn! Thanks also to our separate Sense to Sense virtual reading group, which met on Zoom for one hour each week. Thanks to everyone involved!

Walking the Internet

For Walking the Internet, we met on three concurrent Saturdays in different locations in NYC (Times Square, Midtown, and FiDi) to explore the city's physical and cultural infrastructure...

End of our FiDi group walk at the AT&T Long Lines Building (33 Thomas St.)
Featuring special guest Ingrid Burrington, author of Networks of New York: An Illustrated Field Guide to Internet infrastructure
Times Square, Max Neuhaus (1977–)

Looking for the internet, we looked all around: above and below...

We also explored many POPS (Privately Owned Public Spaces), which feel like a useful allegory to the current internet.

Traffic Cam Photobooth

Thanks to teachers Alex and Laurel, and everyone who joined us for each walk! We would love to do this again someday.
