We thought it might be nice to catch up with our alumni (participants & teachers) from last summer to see what they're all up to lately... some happenings below. And if you're in NYC, join us at the Ultralight Picnic, info also below...

Ariana Gupta (Sense to Sense, participant) has soft-launched Warm Regards, an independent press publishing artist books and objects. Her first title arrives at the end of summer. Follow along here!

Halim Lee (TWA, participant) is continuing to update solarpanel.scrapthe.world, a website that was created at TWA last summer. She also published Drops from the Air, a book she began making last June. As this summer brings back memories of that time, she is looking forward to it even more!

Siri Lee (TWA, participant) cannot believe almost a whole year has passed since TWA...!!! The site she made, prayer.technology, lives on and remains open to submissions. She's been making wonky sites like antsoftheprairie.com, benhagari.com, and others on their way…

Mary Jiang (TWA, participant) has been making garments, one for each of the four or so seasons since last year’s class. The first WIPs live at 201.lol and will hopefully continue for many more seasons.

Kenna McCafferty (Sense to Sense, participant) is developing a music ‘news’ ‘letter.’ Send a song that is 100% you to alphonse.f.was@gmail.com to sign up!

Maddy Bruster & Ritam Mehta (TWA, participants) collaborated on this interactive piece for New York Focus and are designing and developing the identity and website for Sugar Cube, a new magazine from editor Brittany Dennison, out this fall!

Meg Miller (Sense to Sense, co-teacher) is organizing the Are.na Annual for an 8th year in a row. This year's theme is Score. While submissions are closed now, stay tuned for its release later in December. Additionally, she has a new piece about language loss out in Bricks from the Kiln, also in its 8th volume.

Miaoye Que (Sense to Sense, participant) has just completed the third iteration of Collective Action School, an experimental school for tech workers interested in organizing, and is developing SUBSTRATE, a zine tracing the material, ecological, and political infrastructures of AI along with friends Tandis Shoushtary and Michelle Gan. They’re also training for the NYC Marathon in November and would love to run with you in Brooklyn!

Laurel Schwulst (director) ... has been teaching design at WashU in St. Louis the past year and will return again this next school year. She is excited for this second Ultralight School summer and looking forward to being in NYC again this July!

Bryant Wells (TWA, co-teacher) has been involved with Field Meridians in launching FMFM, a low powered FM radio station (which had a block party in June), Plank Magazine Issue no.2 (which released earlier this year), and Dweller 6 (which happened in February).

Alex Wolfe (Walking the Internet, co-teacher) has been publishing some incredible journalism in The New York Times including a piece about walking to the World Cup. He is also teaching walking & writing classes in NYC.

Finally, if you're in NYC this summer — stay tuned for the Ultralight Picnic happening on Sunday, July 19th in Valentino Jr. Park in Red Hook, Brooklyn. Feel free to add it to your summer calendar. Bring a blanket and some snacks and beverages and see you there!
